Hello! My name is Ed Philips.

I work in acrylic and oil to create paintings that I hope serve as reminders of God’s wonderful glory in all of creation.

Behind every painting
is a painter, and
behind every painter
is a story.

Let me tell you a little about myself…

I had an unusual childhood as my family moved a lot – a whole lot! I was born in Florida and we moved to Texas three months later. That was the pattern for the next 40+ years of my life. I traveled to every state in the United States, as well of most of Europe and the Middle East. I then traveled for business for many years, visiting parts of Africa and South America. Along the way, the experiences I had in those places brought such a great appreciation for the staggering beauty and creativity God displays in every part of His creation.

Perhaps that is why I enjoyed painting even when I was a child, and have always had a love for art. I continued to paint into my thirties. Then as children came and business obligations rose, time to paint became harder and harder to come by, and my painting was put on hold for 35+ years.

I had one painting that I had started before I set painting aside that I kept. Over the years I would sometimes see that unfinished painting and I’d think to my self “One day I’m going to finish that painting.” Finally in 2017 life began to slow down and one day I saw that partially done painting and pulled out my paints and brushes. As I finished that painting I realized how much I enjoyed it and missed it. That began the journey of painting a lot once again.

A couple of years later I began to consider trying to make a living from my art. After decades making a living in the business world, I made the decision turn what was a hobby into a new career doing what I passionately enjoy. Though it is often risky and uncertain, I have found great joy in this journey.

Each of my paintings has a story behind it. All of my paintings reflect something I am drawn to personally. I paint many different subjects in a realist style, although I include a touch of impressionism from time to time. In each work, I try to express the beauty, inspiration, and meaning that comes from observing and being part of God’s amazing creation.

My hope is that my art will bring joy and inspiration to viewers whatever the subject may be – people, animals, landscapes, or objects in a still life. I also enjoy teaching and sharing, so if you are an artist and have questions or think I can help you in some way, please be sure to CONTACT ME. I would love to hear from you!
